Algeria appoint Rabah Madjer as Lucas Alcaraz’s replacement

The Algeria football legend has been handed the mantle to lead the Desert Foxes to the 2019 Afcon after a failed 2018 World Cup bid

The Algerian Football Federation has confirmed Rabah Madjer as the new head coach of their national team.

Following the sack of Lucas Alcaraz - six months after his appointment in April, Madjer who had previously managed the national team in 1993, 1999 and 2002 becomes Algeria’s fifth head coach in three years.

The 1987 African Player of the Year has been saddled with the responsibility to lead the Desert Foxes to the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon with their next qualification game billed against Gambia in March.

Madjer will take charge of his first competitive game when Algeria welcome Nigeria to Blida in a dead rubber encounter after a failed 2018 Fifa World Cup qualification campaign.
