The Promise Keepers attacker is delighted to end his goal drought with the match-winning strike against the Owena Whales

Akwa United’s Victor Mbaoma is relieved to end his league’s goal drought in their home win against Sunshine Stars on Sunday.

Mbaoma started life impressively with the Promise Keepers scoring four goals in the opening seven matches but he found it difficult to increase that tally for over two months.

The attacker revealed that he was delighted to increase his goal haul for the season to five and that he was more excited that the goal proved to be their winner against the Owena Whales.

“Every striker likes to score and when goals refused to come, no one is happy,” Mbaoma told Goal.

“I am happy that I have broken my goal drought and I am certain that from now henceforth I will get more goals for my team. It has been very difficult months for me when I have to ponder over my inability to get goals as often as I liked to.

“I am delighted that I seized the chance against Sunshine Stars. I will keep on striving harder to ensure that I don’t have this type of experience again.”

Mbaoma has played 12 league matches for Akwa United with five goals and he took part in all the Promise Keepers’ six games in the failed Caf Confederation Cup expedition.
