The striker is confident his new side can mount a credible challenge to clinch the top-flight despite finishing fifth last season

Abass Mohammed has tipped Asante Kotoko for the Ghana Premier League title despite struggling throughout last season to eventually finish fifth on the log.

Kotoko endured a miserable 2015-16 campaign and missed out on the Caf Champions League and Confederations Cup qualification.

However, Abass, who joined the Porcupine Warriors from Medeama a fortnight ago, believes the Kumasi-based club can end their two-season title drought this term.

“Our chances are bright ahead of the season. Asante Kotoko are different from my former club and all the clubs I’ve played for,” Abass said.

“They are ahead in terms of support base and the preparation to matches is unique. We can win the league this season. The reason they brought us [the new players] here is to help solve the goal scoring problems. I hope everything goes well for the team so that we can score more goals and achieve the league target,” he added.

Returnees Great Olympics will open the topflight campaign on Saturday when they welcome Berekum Chelsea to the Accra Sports Stadium before Sunday games, which include Kotoko and Liberty Professionals clash.
