Commentary

That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
This victory moves Rennes up to seventh in Ligue 1, while PSG remain top, but their unbeaten run comes to an end. Next up for Rennes is a trip to Metz after the international break, meanwhile PSG will look to get back to winning ways when they face Angers.
PSG suffer their first defeat of the season as they are beaten 2-0 by Rennes. The home side took a surprise lead on the stroke of half-time, with Laborde firing them ahead with a lovely finish. It then took them a matter of seconds to double their advantage in the second half, with Laborde this time turning provider, as Tait finished off a quick counter, to make it 2-0. PSG struggled to get going after the break, but did manage to get the ball into the back of the net, however, Mbappe's goal was ruled out by VAR for offside. Rennes then held out for the win.
90' + 7' FULL-TIME: RENNES 2-0 PSG
90' + 5' The home crowd are loving this from their side, they've been excellent today and as we head into the final few seconds, they still lead 2-0. This will be PSG's first defeat of the season.
90' + 3' Rennes have everyone back behind the ball defending now, with just a few minutes remaining. They've done brilliantly to keep PSG at bay for so long.
90' + 1' Messi goes for goal from the edge of the penalty area, trying to find the top left corner of the net. However, the effort flies well wide of the Rennes net.
90' There will be a minimum of SIX minutes added time played at the end of the second half.
89' There is just one minute of normal time left to play, plus any additional time to add on, which might be substantial as we've had a few lengthy VAR reviews. However, PSG still don't look like turning this game around.
L. Ugochukwu
F. Tait
86' Rennes make a late change, with Tait coming off and he has been replaced by Ugochukwu.
K. Mbappé
Yellow Card
86' Mbappe is booked after he twice barges into the back of Assignon near the corner flag, sending him to the floor in frustration.
84' NO PENALTY! The referee has changed his mind after looking at the footage and PSG have been awarded the ball instead. It was definitely a high foot, but Hakimi seems to just get to it first and that's why the decision has been overturned.
83' VAR are taking a look at this penalty decision and the referee is going over to review the footage to double check his decision. Hakimi immediately pleaded his innocence and stressed that he got to the ball first.
82' RENNES PENALTY! Laborde gets his head to the ball in the nick of time just inside the box and Hakimi raises his foot to try and win it back and brings the striker down. It was a late and high challenge by the right-back, so the referee points to the spot.
81' PSG are unbeaten in their last 12 Ligue 1 away games (W11 D1), with their last defeat coming at Lorient on 31st January (2-3).
79' There has been a flurry of activity from the bench in the last few minutes, will the changes make all the difference for PSG? Time is starting to run out for them.
M. Icardi
Neymar
76' Meanwhile Icardi heads on and he has replaced Neymar.
G. Wijnaldum
M. Verratti
76' Verratti is another who comes off and he has been replaced by Wijnaldum.
Ander Herrera
I. Gueye
76' PSG have made a triple change of their own, with Gueye one of those to come off and he has been replaced in midfield by Herrera.
B. Santamaría
J. Martin
75' Third change by the hosts sees Martin replaced by Santamaria.
S. Guirassy
M. Terrier
75' Terrier also heads off and he has been replaced by Guirassy.
L. Assignon
B. Bourigeaud
75' Rennes have made their first substitution, with Bourigeaud heading off and he has been replaced by Assignon.
74' CLOSE! Messi whips another brilliant free-kick towards the top left corner of the net, but this time he sends his effort just wide of the post. Not too far away.
73' Free-kick to PSG in a good shooting position after Neymar is brought down just outside the box. It looks like Messi will be the one to take it. Can he go close again?
72' The game seems a lot more open at the moment, with PSG pushing forward more on the counter and finding more space in behind. However, Rennes still look strong at the back, if they can just keep Mbappe quiet, as he has been PSG's biggest threat.
70' CHANCE! Mbappe races in behind the PSG defence once again and this time he stays onside, but can't find the finish as he powers his strike over the crossbar from a tight angle. Rennes need to keep a tighter grip on him.
69' GOAL RULED OUT! VAR take a long look at the goal and Mbappe had just drifted offside at the start of the attacking move and therefore the goal has been ruled out for offside! Rennes remain 2-0 ahead.
68' PSG have pulled one back, it’s 2-1! Mbappe plays a quick one-two with Di Maria and then races forward into the penalty area and only has Gomis to beat from a tight angle, firing the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Great finish. However, Mbappe might have been offside in the build-up, so VAR are taking a look.
65' Decent effort! Mbappe tries to curl the ball into the top right corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area, but he gets too much on it and it flies high over the bar.
64' PSG are yet to test Gomis in the Rennes goal during this second half, as they've had to do a lot of defending at the other end themselves. There is still plenty of time left on the clock for them to get back into this one though.
62' CLOSE! Sulemana powers an excellent effort towards goal after cutting in from the left wing and his strike flies towards the top right corner of the net, which has Donnarumma scrambling. However, it flies just inches over the crossbar. That would have been a spectacular third goal.
60' Rennes have lost just one of their nine home games under Bruno Genesio in Ligue 1 (W6 D2), that was against Reims on 12th September (0-2).
58' There are a few PSG players getting warmed up on the sidelines now, as it looks like they need to start thinking about making some changes, because they just haven't got going in the second half.
G. Donnarumma
Yellow Card
56' The final yellow card is shown to Donnarumma, who kept getting involved and speaking to the referee, who lost patience with the keeper in the end.
P. Kimpembe
Yellow Card
55' Kimpembe is also booked for his part in the altercation.
J. Martin
Yellow Card
55' Martin is booked after he squares up to Kimpembe and both sets of players lose their tempers on the edge of the PSG box.
54' Stoppage in play here as Mendes and Martin clash in the air while going for a header and the PSG man comes off worse. A few players from either side then pile in and it gets a bit heated.
52' Rennes look dangerous every time they counter quickly, with PSG not getting close enough to them and they could quite easily be caught out at the back again.
50' PSG have it all to do now, they've got to overturn a two-goal defecit in order to get anything out of the game. Will we see some changes soon?
48' VAR take a long look at the Rennes goal to make sure there wasn't any signs of offside or that the ball didn't go out of play before it was whipped into the box. We have to wait a few minutes before the decision comes through, but the goal stands. Rennes lead 2-0!
G. Laborde
Assist
46' Laborde this time provided the assist for the goal, getting down the right wing and taking on Mendes, before pulling the ball back and finding Tait, who did the rest with an excellent finish.
F. Tait
Goal
46' GOAL! Rennes have doubled their lead straight from the restart! Tait makes it 2-0 just seconds after the game kicks off. Rennes broke quickly up the pitch and PSG just couldn’t get close to them. Laborde sprints down the right wing, before drilling a cross into the box from the byline, which is met by Tait in the box and he slides the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
46' The second half is under way!
PSG will be very frustrated to be a goal down, but they've created enough opportunities to know that they can still get back into the game and turn it around. It will be interesting to see how Rennes react to going ahead, they won't want to just sit back and defend for the remainder of the match.
Rennes hold a surprise 1-0 lead at the break, thanks to Laborde's strike just before the break, which came completely out of the blue. PSG had dominated much of the game, with Neymar and Mbappe both spurning great chances to open the scoring, before Messi hit the crossbar from a free-kick. It looked like it would be goalless at the interval, but Rennes countered late on and Sulemana whipped a great cross into the box, which Laborde converted.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: RENNES 1-0 PSG
K. Sulemana
Assist
45' Sulemana was given too much time and space down the left wing by Hakimi to pick out Laborde in the penalty area, who catches Mendes out and he volleys the ball home. Excellent finish.
G. Laborde
Goal
45' GOAL! Rennes have taken the lead on the brink of half-time, it’s 1-0! It comes from nothing as PSG had been on top, but they’ve caught their opponents out on the break. Sulemana pops up down the left wing and whips a superb cross into the penalty area, which Laborde meets at the far post, getting there ahead of Mendes and he powers it into the back of the net.
43' PSG have won 10 consecutive Ligue 1 games, for the first time since 14 straight wins during Thomas Tuchel's debut in August-November 2018. This is the longest ongoing such run in the division.
41' There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half, can either side break the deadlock before the half-time whistle?
39' The hosts are starting to get a little frustrated with the officials as a couple of challenges have gone against them, plus the added pressure of constantly defending deep.
37' Messi has been excellent for PSG so far, dropping deep to get on the ball and create things in attack and being a constant threat. Rennes just can't quite get close enough to him at the moment.
35' The pace of the game has dropped slightly in the last couple of minutes, with Rennes just trying to keep it goalless before the break, as they are defending deep in numbers.
33' We’re past the half an hour mark now and it remains goalless between Rennes and PSG, but the visitors have created a few good opportunities and should be ahead.
31' OFF THE BAR! Messi whips a free-kick towards the top left corner of the net from 25 yards out, which gets up and over the wall and has Gomis beaten. However, it cannons against the crossbar and Rennes then clear the danger. So close!
30' Free-kick to PSG in an excellent shooting position after Messi is brought down by Martin and it looks like either Messi or Neymar are going to step up to take this. It's around 25 yards out, in the middle of the goal.
29' We are starting to see PSG exert their dominance on the game now, as you can see from the goalscoring chances that they have created in the last few minutes. Rennes need to keep their shape at the back and push out a bit more.
27' Rennes have won just one of their last five Ligue 1 games (D1 L3), that was a 6-0 win over Clermont two weeks ago.
25' CHANCE! How did he miss? Mbappe with an excellent opportunity to fire PSG ahead! Messi slides a superb ball through the Rennes defence towards the striker, who only had Gomis to beat from a narrow angle. However, he doesn't make great contact with it and fires his effort over the crossbar!
G. Laborde
Yellow Card
24' The first yellow card of the game is shown to Laborde for a late challenge on Mendes.
23' CHANCE! Gueye manages to flick the ball through to Mbappe in the box, but he can't control it and Rennes don't clear the danger, so it falls to the feet of Neymar, who powers a volley towards goal. However, he gets it all wrong and it flies high over the crossbar. He should have done a lot better there.
21' CLOSE! Sulemana cuts in from the right wing onto his left foot and powers a superb effort towards goal from the edge of the penalty area and it almost flies into the top left corner of the net. That would have been a great goal! It wasn't too far away.
19' Lovely play by Neymar down the left wing, he skips past three Rennes players, getting deep into the hosts half of the pitch, before cutting back inside and being hacked down by Omari.
18' Almost! Hakimi is released in behind the Rennes defence, but his touch is too heavy and Gomis quickly comes off his line to smother the ball in the nick of time.
17' Over the bar! Martin tries his luck with an effort from outside the box, but he gets too much on the ball and it flies high over the crossbar, not testing Donnarumma.
16' There is a cracking atmosphere inside the Roazhon Park, with the home supporters pleased with the performance that they've seen from their side so far.
14' Rennes currently have everyone back behind the ball defending at the moment, with PSG keeping it well in the middle of the pitch, but not really getting anywhere near the danger zone.
12' Rennes have won just one of their last 10 home games against PSG in Ligue 1 (D3 L6), having won seven of the previous 10 (D2 L1).
10' Decent chance! Rennes work the ball well in the final third and it falls to Laborde inside the box, who volleys an attempt towards the near post, but Donnarumma reads it well and makes a good stop. It just didn't have enough pace on it to test the PSG keeper.
9' Gueye is lucky to get away with just a warning after he pulls the shirt of Tait as the Rennes midfielder looked to break past him. That looked like a yellow card offence.
7' Blocked! Messi finds space just inside the penalty area as the ball is pulled back to him and he aims his effort towards the bottom left corner of the net. However, it is well blocked and Rennes clear the danger.
6' Good defending! Mbappe tries to race through on goal and flicks the ball past Aguerd, trying to use his pace to sprint past the Rennes centre-back. However the defender does really well to keep up with him and put him under pressure, forcing the ball to go out of play.
4' This is better from PSG, they've started to get the ball down and are passing it around midfield nicely. They've gone for a very strong attacking line-up today, so I wouldn't expect it to be too long before they start creating opportunities in the final third.
2' Bright start here by Rennes, they have kicked off on the front foot and are already pushing forward in search of an early goal to catch PSG out. They win a corner, but the visitors comfortably clear the danger.
1' We're under way!
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all the match action!
