Commentary

That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
The two sides will face each other again this time next week, with Salzburg facing a tough task. However, before that Napoli will return to Serie A action, when they'll face Sassuolo. Salzburg, meanwhile, face Sturm Graz in the Austrian Bundesliga.
An entertaining game ends with Napoli securing a 3-0 victory and the Italian side were dominant for the majority of the match, racing into a two-goal lead before the break after goals from Milik and Ruiz. Salzburg came out firing in the second half and almost pulled a goal back early on, but Meret denied Dabbur from just a couple of yards out. The game opened up later on as Salzburg pushed forward and left gaps at the back, which Napoli managed to exploit, getting their third goal after Onguene put the ball into the back of his own net. There could and should have been more goals in the game.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: NAPOLI 3-0 SALZBURG
90' + 3' Late corner for Salzburg, but the hosts defend it well and clear their lines. That should be about it, just a few seconds remain on the clock.
90' + 1' SAVE! Meret with a terrific stop to deny Gulbrandsen, who drills the ball across goal and it looks to be heading into the far corner. However, the Napoli keeper gets down quickly and pushes the ball away from danger.
90' There will be a minimum of three minutes added time played.
88' Just a couple of minutes remain on the clock now, will we see anymore goals in this game? Ounas goes close with a low shot from the edge of the area, under heavy pressure from two Salzburg players.
A. Ounas
Yellow Card
Napoli
86' Another Napoli player is booked, this time it is Ounas, after his tackle on Ramalho.
84' The game has come into life these last few minutes, with Salzburg starting to create chances, but unfortunately this pressure has come too late in the game.
N. Maksimović
Yellow Card
Napoli
82' Maksimovic is the second Napoli player to be booked this evening.
82' CHANCE! Napoli are in danger of conceding an away goal as Salzburg are starting to look very dangerous. Gulbrandsen brings the ball down inside the penalty area, turns away from Koulibaly and then just has Meret to beat, but the Napoli keeper makes a great save from just a couple of yards out.
A. Ounas
A. Milik
Napoli
81' Milik heads off the pitch to a standing ovation, after opening the scoring here. Ounas is his replacement.
80' Of current players in the competition, no duo in this season’s Europa League has created more chances for each other than Salzburg’s Hannes Wolf and Munas Dabbur (11).
78' Napoli have managed to settle the game down now and regain control of the ball, making the visitors do all the chasing and slow the pace of the match.
T. Minamino
M. Dabour
Salzburg
76' Salzburg make their third and final substitution, with Dabour coming off and he has been replaced by Minamino.
75' CHANCE! So close by Milik! The striker is played through by Rui, he tries to place the ball into the far corner of the net from a tight angle, but he drags his shot narrowly wide of the post.
74' Another Napoli goal would surely be decisive ahead of the second leg, it would be incredibly difficult for Salzburg to come back from four goals down. The next goal will be critical.
L. Insigne
D. Mertens
Napoli
72' Napoli make their second change of the game, with Mertens coming off and it's a straight swap up top, with Insigne taking his place.
71' OFF THE POST! Good play by Lainer on the edge of the area, and he chips the ball over the top for Gulbrandsen, who fires a low shot towards goal, but it hits the outside of the post and goes out of play.
69' OFF THE LINE! What a clearance by Ramalho to deny Napoli a fourth goal. It looked like Callejon had scored after heading the ball towards goal from just a couple of yards out, but Ramalho got back and just managed to clear in time.
68' The Salzburg supporters haven't given up yet, they're still making their voices heard inside the Stadio San Paolo. Impressive stuff.
A. Diawara
P. Zieliński
Napoli
66' Here is the first Napoli substitution of the game, with Zielinski the man coming off and he has been replaced by Amadou Diawara.
64' The hosts might start making a couple of changes soon, take the opportunity to rest some players ahead of their next Serie A game at the weekend. Napoli are very comfortable at the moment and they should see the game out now.
E. Mwepu
Z. Junuzović
Salzburg
62' The second change of the double substitution sees Junuzovic head off the pitch, to be replaced by Mwepu.
F. Gulbrandsen
P. Daka
Salzburg
62' Here come the first Salzburg changes of the game, the first sees Daka come off and he has been replaced by Gulbrandsen.
60' There are a few substitutes from each team warming up on the sidelines at the moment, how long will each manager wait before making their first changes of the game?
J. Onguéné
Own Goal
Salzburg
58' GOOOOAAALL! It's an own goal by Onguene, which puts Napoli 3-0 ahead! The cross came into the box from the left wing, into a superb area, just between the goalkeeper and the defence. Onguene had to try and clear as Milik was directly behind him and would've had a tap in from a couple of yards out if he hadn't of gone for the ball.
56' It looks like Napoli are happy to sit back and allow the visitors the ball, trying to break forward on the counter-attack themselves as Salzburg are starting to leave gaps at the back.
X. Schlager
Yellow Card
Salzburg
54' Schlager is the first Salzburg player to be booked after his foul on Milik.
53' CHANCE! Napoli should be 3-0 ahead! Mertens with a fantastic opportunity to score the third goal of the game, but he is denied by a superb stop by Walke. He drifts into space between the Salzburg defence and is played clean through on goal, with just Walke to beat. However, he goes for power and Walke manages to get a hand to the ball and tips it over the crossbar.
51' During their last-32 victory over Zurich, each of Napoli’s five goals across the two legs were scored by different players (Insigne, Callejon, Zielinski, Verdi and Ounas).
49' Salzburg are getting stuck in here and are finally starting to test the Napoli defence. However, as they try to throw players forward in search of a goal, they may leave themselves open at the back for a Napoli counter.
47' CHANCE! Salzburg with their best opportunity of the game so far! They've started this second half really well and worked the ball into a good position inside the Napoli penalty area. After some quick, intricate passes, the ball falls to Dabbur just a few yards out. However, Meret races off his line to narrow the angle and makes a superb save.
46' The second half is underway!
Salzburg have it all to do if they are to come away with any positives tonight, an away goal or two would be huge in their attempts to qualify for the next round. However, Napoli look very comfortable and should see the game out.
A comfortable first half performance by Napoli, they lead 2-0 thanks to goals from Milik and Ruiz early on. Mertens slid the ball through to Milik on the edge of the penalty area, who rounded the Salzburg keeper and placed the ball into the back of the net. Ruiz then doubled their lead less than 10 minutes later, his volley flying into the bottom corner. The visitors have struggled to create anything in attack themselves, apart from a couple of decent shots early on but Meret was equal to them. Daka did put the ball into the back of the net, but it was ruled out for offside.
45' HALF-TIME: NAPOLI 2-0 SALZBURG
43' Salzburg are stringing some good passes together and their link-up play has been good tonight, but it's all in the middle of the pitch and the haven't tested the Napoli defence, who look very comfortable.
41' Napoli’s only home defeat in their last six matches in all European competition came in the Europa League in February last season, falling to a 1-3 defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig (W4 D1).
39' There's not long left on the clock into the break now, will Napoli extend their lead before the half-time whistle? Salzburg aren't getting close enough to the final third to threaten the hosts goal.
37' Salzburg try to play the ball out from the back, but Napoli get players forward and put them under a great deal of pressure, which forces the error and Napoli win a corner. Walke does well to punch the ball clear.
35' Terrific cross into the box by Callejon after racing down the right-wing, his low ball looks to be heading straight to the feet of Milik, who would then only have the keeper to beat. However, Onguene gets back just in time to clear the danger.
34' Salzburg look happy to try and soak up the Napoli pressure at the moment, they are struggling to get out of their own half and haven't created any chances of their own since the opening couple of minutes. A goal before half-time could make a big difference.
32' Milik wins a free-kick deep down the left-wing for Napoli after beating Ramalho, who is late with his tackle and stamps on the foot of the striker. However, the set piece comes to nothing.
30' Unfortunately the ball into the penalty is poor and flies straight out of play at the far post. Wasted opportunity.
29' Free-kick to Salzburg in a good position, around 35 yards out so slightly too far for a shot at goal. However, it's a good opportunity to get players forward and test Meret in the Napoli goal.
28' Salzburg have only lost one of their previous six Europa League matches against sides from Italy (W3 D2) – they knocked out Lazio in the quarter finals of the competition last season.
K. Koulibaly
Yellow Card
Napoli
26' Koulibaly is shown the first yellow card of the game after a late challenge on Xaver. The centre-back beat two Salzburg players before losing control of the ball and diving into the tackle.
24' The home supporters are enjoying this performance from their side, so far it's been the perfect showing to bounce back from the disappointing Juventus defeat.
22' Napoli are playing the game at their own pace now, probing forward and looking to create more goalscoring opportunities, with Mertens and Milik linking up very well in attack.
20' The visitors have dropped too deep and despite having everyone back behind the ball, they are unable to cope with Napoli at the moment.
José Callejón
Assist
Napoli
18' Callejon was about to chip the ball back into the penalty area, but instead spotted Ruiz in space on the edge of the box and the midfielder did the rest, with a fine finish.
Fabián Ruiz
Goal
Napoli
18' GOOOOAAALL! Napoli double their lead, it's 2-0 after a great finish by Ruiz! The hosts had Salzburg penned inside their own half and the visitors failed to deal with a corner, which eventually makes it's way to Ruiz on the edge of the box, who volleys the ball into the bottom corner.
16' GOAL RULED OUT! Salzburg have the ball in the back of the net but it's ruled out for offside! Wolf wins the ball off Maksimovic right on the edge of the Napoli penalty area, after the centre-back takes too long to make his pass. Daka is then played through on goal, he chips the ball over Meret and into the back of the net. However, he is well offside when the pass is made.
15' Decent effort! Koulibaly rises highest as a corner is whipped into the penalty area, the centre-back tries to glance the ball into the far corner, but he doesn't get enough on it and it flies just wide.
14' Napoli and Salzburg will be meeting for the very first time in European competition, only the second Austrian side Napoli will face after Wiener Sport-Club back in 1966.
12' Napoli are now comfortably keeping the ball in the middle of the pitch, making the visitors do all the chasing. Salzburg don't look confident at the back and are making a few too many sloppy passes, which is handing the ball back to Napoli in good areas.
D. Mertens
Assist
Napoli
10' Mertens looked up and spotted his teammate in space on the edge of the penalty area, he then timed his pass to perfection and the striker did the rest with a composed finish.
A. Milik
Goal
Napoli
10' GOOOOAAALLL! Napoli lead 1-0! Milik is fed through on goal by Mertens, he just evades the offside trap after some poor defending by the visitors. The striker then comfortably rounds the goalkeeper and slides the ball into the back of the net. Great start by the hosts.
8' Blocked! Good chance for Napoli! Ruiz is allowed far too much time and space in the penalty area, he wanders into a good position and is well picked out by Mertens, before turning and firing a shot at goal. However, Ramalho does brilliantly to get across and block the effort out for a corner.
7' Both teams are struggling to keep the ball at the moment, as they are pressing high up the pitch and limiting the time and space each other have to play into.
5' First effort at goal! Wolf plays a quick one-two on the edge of the penalty area and tries to place the ball in the bottom corner with his shot, but it's too close to Meret, who makes a comfortable save.
3' Good pace to the game early on, with Napoli pressing forward and making their way into the Salzburg final third already. Callejon just running out of space in the box and Walke pounces on the ball.
1' We're underway!
The teams are out and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all of the match action!
