Zungu helps Guimaraes return to winning ways

This was the South African’s sixth consecutive start for Guimaraes as he continues to make his come back from injury

South African midfielder Bongani Zungu helped his Portugal Primeira Liga side Vitoria Guimaraes return to winning ways with a1-0 win over Moreirense on Friday.

This was Guimaraes’ first win in five matches having undergone a decline in recent times. Prior to this match, Guimaraes had not registered a win in five matches.

Bafana Bafana midfielder Zungu saw the game out as Pedro Martins continues to prefer him over Ghanaian Bernard Mensah.

Zungu suffered a fractured shin in a match against Maritzburg United in February last year and went for almost a year without kicking the ball but South Africans would be pleased with the progress he is making.

The win sees Os Vimaranenses leapfrog Sporting Braga to fourth on the table while Moreirense’s relegation battle wasn’t aided by Friday's result.
