Yannick Zakri confident that Maritzburg United will bounce back against Bidvest Wits

The former Masandawana attacker is good spirits despite the Team of Choice's recent struggles in the league

Recently signed Maritzburg United forward Yannick Zakri has pleaded with fans to be patient as the Team of Choice are yet to find their rhythm this season.

Fadlu Davids' side have come under fire, having secured just a point in their opening three Premier Soccer League (PSL) fixtures.

They have dropped all three points against the likes of Lamontville Golden Arrows and Free State Stars, while they managed to hold Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless draw.

Moreover, they were knocked out of MTN8 at the quarter-final stage, and Maritzburg currently sit in 15th place on the domestic league standings.

Maritzburg's fortunes this season is heavily contrasting to their last where Davids' side started the league campaign on a high note and finished the season in 4th position.

Having watched on as stars such as Lebohang Moboe and speedy striker Evans Rusike left the club in recent times, Maritzburg fans have now put their hopes on Zakri, who believes that it is only a matter of time before they are firing once again.

“I think the club was experiencing a normal spell. I (know) for sure the club has talented players. It is a matter of perseverance for fans. Lot of things has changed in the club. Seasoned players left whilst the new ones are yet to adapt on the current system,” said Zakri.

Meanwhile, ahead of Maritzburg's next home game against Bidvest Wits on Saturday, the former Ajax Cape Town striker is confident that his side will collect maximum points.

"Wits are a tough nut to crack, they are not top of the table by fluke. Though, by looking at things, chances of dispatching Wits are higher. We had a good preparation, everyone wants to break a winning duck. This game will measure our character going forward,” he added.

Although, the Ivorian admits that he is still working on his fitness, he hopes that being in Maritzburg will assist him in recapturing his form.

“This is a perfect place compared to the tempting Gauteng,” he concluded.
