Goal teams up with Philips Style Shaver to look at the best players in the Clasico
As the date of the Clasico approaches for the first round of the Spanish League, the comparisons between both Real Madrid and Barcelona fans begin to increase to see who is the best in each aspect.
Of course, the most common comparisons are those that compare Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who took control over world football with 5 Ballon d’Or’s each across their careers.
Before the Clasico, we try to compare between the best players on both teams in three aspects: strength, style and precision to clinch games, by analysing the performances of each player in these terms before we leave you with a vote to determine the better player.
Strength: the strongest player on the pitch
When thinking about strength, we tend to look at the defence and defensive midfield. For Real Madrid, we have Sergio Ramos and Casemiro alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in the attack.
From Barcelona’s side, they haven’t been very strong in the last few years, but with Valverde that has changed. Samuel Umtiti and Paulinho possess the greatest strength attributes in the current squad.
In the end, it looks like Sergio Ramos and Samuel Umtiti are ideal for these comparisons, and when looking at their numbers we see that they are indeed the strongest players in the Clasico.
The players together have succeeded in winning more than 65% of their duels, but Ramos made a greater amount of mistakes than Umtiti.
The amount of blocks and interceptions are in favour of Ramos, but that could be due to the fact that Barcelona play with a higher defensive line, meanwhile Real Madrid are deeper and receive more balls at the edge of the box.
Who do you think is better?
Style: the more elegant player on the pitch
When looking at the player with the best style, we look at a variety of skills including pass accuracy, dribbling and adjusting the tempo of the games. Xavi was one of the best players in this aspect during his time.
In this comparison, the Prince of the Balkans Luka Modric faces off with Barcelona’s artist Andres Iniesta. Both players have similar styles, although Iniesta is more of an offensive player.
The percentage of pass accuracy is equal between both players, as they both are very accurate with their passing, with a 90% success rate. This is also evident in the long passing aspect.
Modric created and dribbled more than Iniesta, but he has played more this season (1888 minutes compared to Iniesta’s 1336). Evidently, there is no surprise to their presence in this list.
Precision: the killer on the pitch player
When looking at players in front of goal, we compare only two of the best players in the last 10 years and they are Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Comparing between them in world football is similar to a philosophical question, it needs a great deal of analysis to come out with a conclusion, but inevitably both players have given a great deal to football.
Messi’s numbers in terms of goals scored and the percentage of shot success on target are greater than Ronaldo’s, who played 300 minutes less than Messi this season.
Leo Messi also betters Ronaldo in sending the critical pass, also being fouled more than the Don, and that is understandable seeing that he has gone into more duels than Ronaldo.
On the other hand, Ronaldo’s clinching status is on the rise as he continues to determine games for Real Madrid with his important goals. Who do you think is better?
