'VAR has ruined the A-League' - Markus Babbel sent off after bizarre decision in Sydney derby

The Wanderers coach couldn't keep his cool after a controversial VAR call

Western Sydney Wanderers coach Markus Babbel has been shown a straight red card after reacting furiously to a VAR decision to overturn a goal for his side in the Sydney derby.

Trailing 2-0 to Sydney FC with an hour played at the SCG, the Wanderers thought they had pulled one back through Roly Bonevacia only for VAR and on-field referee Chris Beath to disallow it for an offside player interfering in the play.

The decision left Babbel fuming on the touchlines with the German proceeding to fling off his jacket and shout at the fourth officials.

Unsurprisingly the angry reaction saw Beath hand Babbel a red card with the Wanderers coach forced into a long walk off the SCG pitch.

While Babbel's reaction was extreme, social media seemed to agree with him as VAR once again proved there's plenty of room for improvement.

Beath would later explain the decision was for a clear offside, but the VAR decision is anything but with fans and players left fuming.
