Ushuru coach rues poor playing surface for Thika United lose

A 1-0 win for Ushuru in the return leg on Sunday will be enough to see them through

Ushuru head coach Ken Kenyatta has blamed mistakes by his players and bad playing surface at Thika Sub-County stadium for the defeat by host Thika United in the KPL-playoff match on Thursday.

Ushuru fell 2-1 to Thika United in the first round of the two-legged playoff whose winner will seal a place in the Kenyan Premier League next season.

Hassan Mohamed's goal was nothing but a consolation for the tax men who succumbed to Saad Musa and Nigerian Onwudi Chibueze’s 89th-minute winner.

"We had several chances, clear chances to score but we did not utilize them, and we ended up paying the prize. The pitch did little to help, it affected our game. The mistakes we made cost us.

"However, we can still turn the results in our favor in the second leg, there is a chance for us to get the result we need to progress."
