The Premier Soccer League (PSL) returned this weekend with a number of mouth-watering games.

Rise and Shine came into the clash hoping to bounce back from their loss to SuperSport United on penalties in the Telkom Knockout Cup last weekend.

On the other hand, the Team of Choice was motivated following their 2-1 win over Highlands Park in the TKO at home last Friday, but were not as convincing in the league.

Maritzburg fought hard to secure the full three points despite a goalless first half in Polokwane where both sides exchanged possession and battled for dominance.

However, it was Edgar Manaka, who found the back of the net for Polokwane City in the 62nd minute as they managed to hold on to their slender lead and retained the full three points.

The win saw Polokwane City move up to third on the league table with 17 points from nine games, and coach Fadlu Davids' troops sit 13th with seven points.

In the other match of the day, Cape Town City hosted AmaZulu at the iconic Cape Town Stadium as the Citizens looked to exact revenge on their opponents following their TKO defeat.

The match allowed Benni McCarthy's men to bag just their second win of the season in the league.

Goals by Taariq Fielies in the second minute of the tie and Siphelele Mthembu's strike saw the hosts head into the tunnel two goals to the good.

Upon their return for the second half, midfielder Thabo Nodada found the back of the net to make it 3-0 in the 76th minute, thus securing victory for the Citizens.

As a result of the win, the reigning MTN8 champions moved to 11th and the win came as a massive boost for the Mother City side.
