Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says his players will continue working during the Christmas and New Year break.
“It’s an awkward period. It’s not even a minor recess, it’s just a short break,” Komphela told The Sowetan.
The Amakhosi have continued training this week and will only go off on Friday, but will be back on December 27 for three days of training and then are off for the New Year before resuming once more.
They will resume their campaign in third position away to SuperSport United on January 6, six points adrift the league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
“You can’t let your players go off for too long because if you let them go for Christmas and New Year, you won’t be ready for the game on the sixth,” Komphela said.
Similar to entertainers, the Kroonstad-born persist they have to show the professionalism required in their profession as there’s no time to lift up their feet.
“We won’t really rest. We’ll just a few days in between for Christmas and for New Year. There is no time really. We are professionals, like entertainers, we don’t have a chance to rest over this period,” Komphela concluded.
Chiefs will have the least time off of all the teams, with only Cape Town City and Platinum Stars going on holiday a bit longer.
They will resume training on December 29, while the majority of the league will reconvene two days earlier.
