The England international would appear to have plenty of time left to spend in European football, but he plans to head for the States at some stage

Raheem Sterling’s immediate future lies at treble-winning Manchester City, but he is planning to head for MLS at some stage in his career.

At 24 years of age, the England international forward is yet to reach his peak.

Those at the Etihad Stadium are hoping to be the ones to benefit from any further potential that is unlocked.

They have him tied to a long-term contract signed in November 2018 and have no intention of parting with a key man in Pep Guardiola’s plans any time soon.

Sterling is, however, prepared to admit that he sees himself heading out of Manchester.

No timescale is being put on that career path, but there is a desire on his part to eventually settle in the United States.

Sterling told the Wall Street Journal conference of his ambition: "English football has grown massively over here. It wasn't like that in the past, and it'll continue to get bigger.

"I was surprised even just popping out to the shops and being recognised by one or two people. I didn't expect that over here.

"This is a country I would, one day, love to be able to come to. Your weather is a lot better than ours. Hopefully one day I can have my family over here."

Sterling is already keeping across events in America, and in Australia.

Premier League champions City boast sister clubs on numerous other continents, including MLS outfit New York City FC and A-League side Melbourne City FC.

It could be that Sterling trades one branch of the Blues’ global talent pool for another in the future.

He added: "There's always games on our television at the training ground.

"For sure, it [MLS] is growing in the UK, and people are really taking it in and want to come over. Hopefully I will have a career here as well."

For now, Sterling is basking in the glory of City’s historic 2018-19 campaign.

They have become the first side to complete a clean sweep of the three domestic trophies on offer in England, with Guardiola’s men claiming major silverware in the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
