According to reports, SuperSport United goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse has stopped training with the club amid interest surrounding his services.
SuperSport have previously admitted that they would not stand in the 26-year-old’s way should a healthy offer be made, and it appears that he could soon be donning the colours of another club.
Since joining SuperSport from Amakhosi in 2016, Pieterse has faced stiff competition at the club with Ronwen Williams seen as the club’s No.1.
Last season, Pieterse managed 16 appearances in the league but admittingly this was predominantly down to the fact that Williams was out injured.
Nonetheless, with Williams returning to the fray and getting back to his best, Pieterse may find it tough to cement a permanent starting berth.
With reports indicating that Sundowns are closing in on his signature, Pieterse has reportedly asked to be excused from training as he looks set for a move away.
“He is no longer on the training grounds of the club. He has asked to stop training with the club,” a source told Phakaaathi.
“Management is not sure of the player’s plans at the moment as he didn’t communicate with them. He asked the coach and those responsible for the team if he could stop training,” the source added.
“The club has plans of finding out what’s going on before the start of the season on Saturday,” the source further explained.
With the season, set to begin on this weekend, SuperSport will hope to sort out the goalkeeper’s future.
SuperSport also recently signed experienced shot-stopper Washington Arubi which could be a sign that they are already planning for life without Pieterse.
