News circulating suggests that an Orlando Pirates striker has been accused of allegedly raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl.
On Sunday, a report in Sunday World explained that an unnamed Buccaneer was under investigation for an alleged case of statutory rape, but that police were allegedly protecting the identity of the perpetrator, according to the mother of the girl.
The alleged victim's mother has reportedly accused the South African Police of protecting the alleged perpetrator, saying that they have misled the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) as they have failed to arrest him or update her on the progress of the case.
Reports state that the alleged incident took place in Centurion at the girl's grandmother’s house where the footballer has accused of allegedly forcing himself on the minor while her mother was in the house and his girlfriend was sleeping.
The incident is said to have occurred after an event where alcohol was consumed, with the striker alleged to have been acting as the mixologist.
The player is reportedly also dating the daughter of the alleged victim’s aunt.
Furthermore, the report also mentioned that Gauteng police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini has confirmed that the police are investigating a case of statutory rape but refused to comment on accusations that investigators were dragging their feet.
Meanwhile, the player in question who is yet to be named has refused to comment on the allegations.
