Madrid's first game was against Manchester United at the 68,500-seater Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on July 23. The Blancos went behind before equalising through Casemiro, but ultimately lost on penalties, with David de Gea foiling the Spanish champions.

Madrid then took a quick one-hour flight down the coast to Los Angeles, to play Manchester City three days later. However, they were utterly outclassed by Pep Guardiola's men, losing 4-1 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

After that, Real contested the first Clasico against Barcelona outside of Spain for 25 years at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, but Zidane's men tasted yet another defeat, with Gerard Pique scoring the winner in a 3-2 thriller.

With their ICC participation over, Madrid flew three hours north to Chicago for the much anticipated MLS All-Star Game against a team containing former player Kaka and the likes of David Villa, Sebastian Giovinco and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Real concluded their friendly schedule with victory at Soldier Field, but only through penalties, after being held to a 1-1 draw.

WHEN DOES THE SEASON START?

Real Madrid begin their defence of the Liga title with an away clash against Deportivo la Coruna on August 20.

Ahead of that, however, Madrid will, of course, play in the Supercopa as defending league champions. They will face Barcelona, who won the Copa del Rey, so we will see three Clasicos between the end of July and mid-August.

The second leg of the Supercopa - which Madrid will host at the Santiago Bernabeu - will then take place on Tuesday, August 15.

Before that, though, the Champions League winners will play Europa League winners Manchester United in Macedonia in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday, August 8.

Since the first league game is not until the end of August, Real will have three competitive matches under their belt by the time they kick a ball in the Spanish top flight. Their Champions League campaign, meanwhile, will begin when the group stage kicks off in September.
