The Columbus Crew manager wants the Ghanaian to pick some positives from the midweek fall

Columbus Crew boss Gregg Berhalter has urged youngster Lalas Abubakar to take a lesson from Wednesday's disappointing showing at Philadelphia Union.

The Ghanaian was sent off for a double bookable offence 14 minutes to full time as the Black and Gold slumped to 3-0 reversal in Major League Soccer.

It was the 22-year-old's first expulsion in elite division football.

''I think that whole game was a learning opportunity for Lalas," Berhalter said, as reported by the Columbus Dispatch.

"I think there’s a number of play where he felt he could have done better and that’s why he’s a young player and that’s why he’s learning.

''To me he’s been doing a good job since he’s been playing and as long as he can learn from this, he’ll be fine.''

Following a brief loan stint at lower tier side Pittsburgh Riverhounds earlier this season, Abubakar has emerged as a strong force in Crew's rearguard, having started each of the last three league games.

His double booking, though, rules him out of contention for a place as the Black and Gold play away to Real Salt Lake on Saturday.
