Orlando Pirates have reinforced their technical team with the appointment of performance analyst Darian Wilken.

The analyst has been working for Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit AmaZulu FC, who managed to retain their status in the top flight league last season.

The Buccaneers have now snapped up Wilken from the KwaZulu-Natal giants. Wilken confirmed in a statement posted on his Twitter account that he is joining the Soweto giants.

“I leave AmaZulu a different person‚ having arrived at the club as a boy outside of his comfort zone,” Wilken wrote.

"I was and have continuously been given opportunities to learn and to grow‚” he continued.

“In saying that‚ I’m excited to say I have joined Orlando Pirates. This is an extremely exciting time for the club as a whole and I’m humbled to be a part of it‚” he added.

Rayan Jacobs, who joined Pirates in 2013 as a technical analyst, left the club for Cape Town City last December. He was in charge of Bucs’ Multichoice Diski Challenge side.

Wilken’s departure from AmaZulu was confirmed by the club’s media offier‚ Brilliant Mkhathini.

“He told us he’s going to Pirates‚” Mkhathini told SowetanLive.

The Buccaneers recently beefed up their technical team with Andrew Sparkes‚ who is expected to serve as the new goalkeeper coach.

Sparkes was previously with English Championship side Swansea City where he served as the club’s head of academy goalkeeping department.

The highly qualified trainer has replaced Ivica Vukusic‚ who had joined the club last year. The Croatian recently confirmed his departure from the Soweto giants.

Pirates technical team which is led by Serbian tactician Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, is expected to guide the club to major trophies next season and end the Houghton-based side’s four-year trophy drought.

Bucs are set to participate in the PSL, MTN8 Cup, Telkom Knockout Cup, Caf Champions League as well as Nedbank Cup.
