Nyantakyi admits excitement after Caf appointment

Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi says he is elated following his appointment as the first vice president of Caf on Monday.

The 47-year-old, who doubles as Fifa council member, believes his new position is an indication that Ghana is well respected in football cycles.

“Ghana football is respected at Caf both technically and administratively and the approval I had from my colleagues at the executive committee is a further indication," Nyantakyi told Graphic Sports.

“More than it being a personal achievement, I see this new appointment as a responsibility to ensure that the flag of Ghana is further raised higher as my predecessors who had the chance to serve at Caf, held it aloof.

“I’m also excited about the fact that I have been given the opportunity to help president Ahmad Ahmad to achieve his set agenda for African football. Indeed, the vice president’s role is complimentary and I intend to play it as effectively as I can," he added.

Nyantakyi has become the second Ghanaian to be appointed to that position at Caf after Ohene Djan.
