Patrick Matasi has set his eyes on retaining the Golden Gloves, this time around with Tusker FC.

Matasi joined Tusker from Posta Rangers in the mid-season transfer window that is set to shut on Monday midnight.

Matasi, who made his debut in the Tusker jersey with a 2-0 win against Vihiga united at Mumias Sports complex, is upbeat that the Brewers can win at least a trophy despite a poor season that has seen the club part with a number of players and coaches.

“I must win something in terms of a trophy. I have taken the golden glove twice consecutively. If you look at the players we have, from the defenders to midfielders I have realized if we push harder we shall achieve that as a team too; where we all get accolades at the end of the year,” Matasi said.

Tusker, who are currently ninth on the log, picked their first victory in three games thanks to two goals from Jackson Macharia and Collins Shivachi.

“We came to this game with the target to maintain the clean sheet and score goals which at the end we did score two goals and defended well as a team.

“Before the match, my fellow goalkeeper, Duncan Ochieng told me he has given me the mantle so I need to bring back a win and a clean sheet which happened. That was total motivation for me because he trusted me already even before the game started.

Matasi also paid glowing tribute to his goalkeeping partner, tapping into his over two decade's experiences on the pitch to settle in Ruaraka.

“Ochiend has played for 21 years in this league. It’s not that easy and not everybody can play for that long but if you take a look on how we’ve trained with him since I got here, it has been so easy to gel with him and the rest of the department.

“The little I have already learnt from him is that he is a person who loves training and that does push us. As I came to the team in our first training he teased me saying I was slow to sign and all I could say am here it’s time to work….”

Tusker, who also booked a place in the FKF Shield Round of 16, will next take on Nakumatt in the league.
