MFM FC are ready to make their debut appearance in the Caf Champions League this season, according to captain Austine Opara.
Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men begin their journey to continental glory with a fixture against Real Bamako of Mali in the preliminary round on February 10.
With their first league victory of the season against Kwara United on Wednesday, Opara affirmed that the Agege Stadium oufit are prepared to lock horns with the six-time Malian Premier Division champions.
“We're ready, it is football and we're going to play it. We can't say because it's our first time in the continental tournament then we should be afraid, anything can happen in football," Opara told Goal.
“People will say we don't have the experience, we don't have the team for the tournament but I believe with the kind of players we have, we can do better."
Following the departure of the profilic forward Stephen Odey to FC Zurich last year, the skipper is optimistic that the available attackers in the team can match the talisman who scored 18 league goals last season.
“In a team, when you have that kind of player [Odey] in attack, you will still feel his absence when he leaves, but the paramount thing is to move on and I think the attackers we have will do much better this season,” he added.
