Mamelodi Sundowns are in a race against time to sign several of their top targets if they hope to have them involved in the opening rounds of this year’s Caf Champions League.
According to the rules, Masandawana have until today (Monday) to register their new acquisitions, and while a deal is likely to be concluded for long-term target Jeremy Brockie in the coming hours, reports have now emerged that the Tshwane giants are closing in on another of their targets.
It was previously reported that Sundowns were closing in on highly rated Uruguayan winger Gaston Sirino, and it is believed that a move is likely to also be concluded.
Meanwhile, with the acquisition of Sirino a real possibility, other reports suggest that Yannick Zakri could be the player to make way. Reports on the weekend had his agent Mike Makaab revealing that the 26-year-old was likely to be the player to make way to accommodate for the Brazilians new signings.
It has since emerged that the Ivorian is currently training with Ajax Cape Town with a six-month loan deal said to be on the cards.
Zakri’s acquisition will severely boost coach Mushin Ertugral’s attacking department as they have already acquired Zimbabwean Tendai Ndoro, and he will be expected to hit the ground running at Ikamva as they look to avoid a relegation dogfight come the end of the season.
