Lobi Stars’ Ogenyi hopes to bounce back from Go Round defeat

Lobi Stars assistant coach Evans Ogenyi has explained why his team bowed to Go Round in Sunday’s NPFL clash.

Shedrack Oghali's second half striker condemned the league leaders to defeat at the Krisdera Hotel Stadium, Omoku.

Reacting to the loss, Ogenyi said the outcome of the encounter was not a reflection of his side’s performance and rued his side’s inability to convert their chances.

“There is no team in the NPFL that is a pushover. We came here with a mission but what I will not totally agree that Go Round played better than we did,” Ogenyi told NPFL website.

“We all know that it is the teams that take their chances that win games. In the first half, we lost so many goalscoring chances than Go Round but they took the only chance they had in the second half.

“I will not totally agree that their win was a reflection of what happened throughout the 90 minutes.”

“It is just the belief. We have the determination that this time around we have what it takes to actually go for the league title by the time the season ends,” Ogenyi continued.

“We have told our players from the beginning of the season that they should be ready. The motivation and the self-belief that we can do it have been keeping us going.

“We are certain that Lobi Stars will be crowned league champions at the end of the season because we have done it before and we are sure we are going to repeat the feat again.

“It is still a marathon. We must take the positives and negatives from every match that we play and from this game, we have seen it all.

“We hope to work on the negatives before our next league match and by the time the World Cup ends we will be ready for Niger Tornadoes and other teams.”
