Asante Kotoko’s policy analyst, Dr Amo Sarpong, who allegedly fired gunshots outside Golden City Park in Berekum on Sunday, has been handed an indefinite suspension by Ghana Football Association.
Gunshots were heard ahead of the match between Berekum Chelsea and Kotoko, which led to confusion and injuries outside the facility but did not affect the game which ended in a goalless draw.
Security operatives at the venue told local police that Sarpong rushed to his car to grab a gun in response to an attack on his colleague by fans of the home team. Both men were briefly hospitalised with injuries.
A management member of Kotoko, Edmund Ackah, said Sarpong will comply with the decision and that he has the full support of the club.
“We welcome his temporary ban and for his own security he will comply with it until the case is heard. We fully support him. His decision to pull out the gun was due to a mob attack on him by numerous fans of Berekum Chelsea,” Ackah told FOX FM.
A ban has been imposed on the Golden City Park as well while Sarpong will appear before the Disciplinary Committee of Ghana FA.
