The Black Stars took a huge step towards qualification to the Chan tournament after an away victory in a friendly against the Hawks

The home-based Black Stars defeated Togo 2-1 in an international friendly on Sunday in Lome ahead of the Chan qualifier against Burkina Faso next month.

Two goals from Wafa players Richmond Lamptey and Daniel Lomotey, sandwich by Issifou Bourhana's consolation, were enough to hand Maxwell Konadu's men a deserving victory in the preparatory game.

Konadu praised his charges after the victory but believes lots of work must be done.

"We've played a lot of games without a defeat and we were expecting a lot of things from the game against Togo of which we had what we wanted," Konadu said.

"We expected a tough game and that is what Togo gave us especially in the second half, they were stronger. They gave us a lot of pressure, pinned us to our side and that tested our resilience.

"They had their goal from that moment and the way we responded also was fantastic. The players showed a lot of character and fought back, and for me, that is the most important thing because that is what I expected from them ahead of the game but we have a lot of work ahead of us if we want to be successful," he added.

Goal understands that the team will arrive in the country on Monday to enable the players to rejoin their respective clubs ahead of the Ghana Premier League matchday 22 fixtures on Wednesday.
