This is according to the 26-year-old central midfielder’s agent Paul Mitchell, who confirmed that the player has played his last game for Amakhosi.
Buchanan has failed to live up to expectations since joining Chiefs from Bloemfontein Celtic on a free transfer prior to the 2016/17 season.
The Cape Town-born player was handed the famous No.10 jersey at Amakhosi seeing him join a list of illustrious names that have worn the popular kit.
Isaac Kungwane, Stanton Fredericks and Siyabonga Nkosi are some of the big name players, who turned out for the Soweto giants while wearing the famous jersey.
Buchanan, who made only three league appearances for Amakhosi during the recent 2017/18 season, is in the process of terminating his contract with the club.
“He won’t be staying with Chiefs. He is leaving,” Mitchell of Siyavuma Sports Group told IOL Sport.
“We haven’t terminated his contract as yet, but we are in the process of doing that,” he continued.
“We are hopeful that what happened to Siyanda Xulu (who left Chiefs and went on to shine for Maritzburg United) will also happen to Buchanan,” he added.
Xulu parted ways with Chiefs at the end of the 2016/17 season having struggled for game time at the Naturena-based club and he joined Maritzburg where he managed to resurrect his career.
The 26-year-old centre back scooped the league’s Defender of the Season accolade at the 2017/18 PSL Awards at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
“He is a quality player. Injuries also hampered his progress at Chiefs,” the Siyavuma chief executive officer concluded.
The publication also reported that Maritzburg are looking to snap up Buchanan, who has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Chiefs since joining the club in June, 2016.
The PSL transfer window is set to open in July 2018.
