The 26-year-old joined Amakhosi on a two-and-a-half-year at the beginning of the year, but he was unfortunate to pick up the injury a day after his official unveiling.
Coach Steve Komphela had hoped to be without Mahlasela for up to three months, and he would feel hard done by this latest setback.

Kabelo Mahlasela will be out of action for four months. The procedure to repair a tear in his meniscus inside the knee went well.
Mahlasela incurred the freak injury in his first training with the team.
We wish Mahlasela a speedy recovery.
As things stand, Mahlasela will only return to action in May, and he may need a few more week upon his return to regain his fitness.
This means he will only kick a ball next season as the final league matches of the current campaign are scheduled for May 12.
Mahlasela was expected to bring a different dimension to the Amakhosi midfield this season, and it remains to be seen if the club will see the need to go into the transfer market and replace him before the window closes on January 31.
