Kaizer Chiefs never expressed interest in Claasen and Pienaar

Goal has gathered that Kaizer Chiefs are yet to register their interest in both Daylon Claasen and Steven Pienaar despite media reports stating otherwise.

According to an impeccable source within the Amakhosi camp, the players’ agent, Lance Davids, only contacted Steve Komphela to find out if he would be interested in the two midfielders.

However, the Chiefs coach will only be able to decide when he meets with the club’s management for the season review session in the coming weeks.

“The information we have is that Lance contacted the coach, but as you know the coach cannot make that decision on his own. He still have to propose to the management if he needs Claasen and Pienaar in his team for next season,” the source told Goal.

“As things stand, he can only do that during the season review session, and that’s when the club will make a decision as a collective whether to pursue the two players or not,” said the source.

“It’s normal for agents to call different clubs to see if they would be interested in their clients, and I’m sure Chiefs are not the only club they have phoned regarding the two aforementioned players,’ concluded the source.

Pienaar has also been linked with a possible move to Orlando Pirates, while a few other PSL teams, including Mamelodi Sundowns are also reported to be interested in his services.

The 34-year-old indicated soon after his team, Sunderland were relegated from the Premier League in England that he would like to play in South Africa for at least another season before considering retirement.

Claasen, one of the most travelled South African footballers, will see contract with German outfit 1860 Munich expire at the end of June, meaning he will join a team of choice on a free transfer.
