ATK’s latest signing Emiliano Alfaro has suffered an Achilles rupture and will remain out of action for at least two months, Goal can confirm. The Uruguayan could possibly have to undergo a surgery.

On Monday, the Kolkata-based club had announced the arrival of the striker in place of injured Kalu Uche. Alfaro had attended his first training session with ATK on Tuesday. Goal has learnt that the forward suffered the injury while training for Steve Coppell’s side on Thursday.

He came in as a replacement of injured Kalu Uche who suffered a grade three tear to his quadriceps muscles in their last match before the international break against Bengaluru FC in Kolkata. Uche went to Barcelona for further treatment.

Pune released Alfaro after just seven matches into the season.

He played six matches in ISL this year for Pune in which he managed to score just once and provided one assist. He also missed two penalties. He was Pune’s top goal scorer last season netting six times.

The Uruguayan's injury comes as a huge blow for ATK who did not have a great start to their Indian Super League (ISL) campaign. They managed to pick up just three wins out of their first seven games. They have scored just nine goals and are sitting on the sixth position on the league table.

It must be noted that ATK's injury woes have only continued ever since they parted ways with Atletico Madrid after the third season of the ISL. Arnab Mondal is still injured for ATK while Eugeneson Lyngdoh is yet to make an appearance for ATK after a long injury lay-off last season.
