ISL 2017-18: 'Avram Grant will motivate us', says NorthEast United's Joseph Sidy

NorthEast United's interim head coach Joseph Sidy is confident about his team's chances against FC Goa when both sides meet for their Indian Super League (ISL) fixture in Guwahati on Saturday.

Joao de Deus was shown the door by the management after a poor run of results that saw the team drop to ninth position in the table after seven matches. Sidy, who is their goalkeeping coach, has taken charge as the head coach and will seek help from the club's technical advisor Avram Grant. The former Chelsea manager was roped in by the John Abraham-owned side on Thursday.

"After having the new advisor (Avram Grant) in our team, the mood has changed. The situation is different now. Boys are geared up and are ready to go for tomorrow's match," said Sidy, who dismissed rumours of dressing room unrest during De Deus' tenure. "Nothing like that. I don't want to comment."

"We are going to do well. Our new advisor with his past experience and coaching style will surely motivate us. It is going to give us more confident to do well in future matches and hopefully we will do well and let's see where we can go," added the Indian coach.

Israel-born Avram Grant has the experience of managing Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, Portsmouth and West Ham United. However, Sidy believes he will take time to adjust.

"The advisor has just started his journey here. He will take time to adjust. He will take a look at the players at the training sessions and slowly come to know about them and vice versa."

Sidy mentioned that midfielder Didika is the only player injured and opined on the goalkeepers' performances so far, "So far I am happy with the goalkeepers' performances. They conceded some silly goals. But this is football,  everybody is bound to make mistakes. They will improve."
