I-League 2017: Minerva Punjab's Khogen Singh: 'We will try to continue our form'

Defending champions Aizawl FC will be up against current table leaders Minerva Punjab on Wednesday afternoon at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl.

Having maintained an unbeaten streak so far, Minerva Punjab coach Khogen Singh spoke about the team’s impressive run stating that the Ludhiana-based outfit aims keep it going. ‘’We will try to continue this form until the end of the season. We will try to bring out 100% motivation,’’ he commented.

The Warriors have played just once away from home soil until now. On being questioned if playing away after two consecutive home matches could pose trouble, Singh replied, ‘’A home match is different from an away match. Aizawl is a tough opponent as they are playing good football but we will go for the three points. If the players show mentality and motivation, the match will be similar to how it is at home.’’

On the other hand, hosts Aizawl FC’s coach Paulo Meneses believes that his troops have been performing well despite winning just once in three matches. ‘’In my opinion, we play very well. We try to control the game and reach the box with quality and try to score,’’ he expressed.

The Portugal-born gaffer stated that the North-Eastern outfit will operate as a team to try and combat Minerva Punjab. Further, he added that Alfred Jaryan and co. are prepared for the face-off to prove their worth.

‘’We need to play like a team when we have the ball. We need to focus on the team and not just a player. They (Minerva Punjab) have many good players but we too are ready to play against them.  I hope we can get the three points.

It’s a very good challenge for us to show that we are current champions. I’m excited and I hope the players show the same,’’ he said before signing off.
