The Ikon Allah Boys suffered their first defeat this season to the Promise Keepers and the defender believes it was a great lesson

Niger Tornadoes' Andrew Ikefe has revealed that his side's 2-1 home loss to Akwa United in Lokoja on Sunday was an eyeopener for them this season.

Ikon Allah Boys had remained unbeaten since returning to the Nigerian top flight in 2015 at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium until Victor Mbaoma's winner smashed the record on Wednesday.

And the defender is nevertheless optimistic they will bounce back from their miserable home defeat to the Promise Keepers when they face Lobi Stars on Sunday.

"I am still in shock about the defeat on Wednesday. Though I expected a tough game but never expected a loss because we had what it takes to win," Ikefe told Goal.

"We created chances to score and really showed fought hard to come back into the game.  No doubt, Akwa gave us a bad day but we must move on and take enough lessons from it.

"I think the loss was an eye-opener for us as a team and blessing in disguise. We must accept it in good faith and focus on taking huge motivations from it.

"Now we must be focused on our next league game and make sure we respond positively by doing our best to win in Markudi.

"If we can win against Kwara United in Ilorin, nothing should stop us from winning again at Lobi on Sunday."

Niger Tornadoes have accrued six points from possible 16 in four matches this season.
