‘He’s a big character in the changing room already’ ̶ Shane Duffy lavishes praise on Leon Balogun

Shane Duffy has talked up fellow Brighton and Hove Albion teammate Leon Balogun after a stunning 3-2 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

After Lewis Dunk picked up an injury in the 20th minute of the encounter, the Nigeria international came on for him in his Premier League debut to partner with Duffy in the heart of the team’s defence.

Balogun’s huge impact in the Seagulls’ triumph over the Old Trafford giants has attracted plaudits from the Derry-born defender.

“He [Balogun] was great. He fitted straight in. He's a big character in the changing room already,” Duffy told The Argus.

“You can tell. He's got a big voice and he's experienced. He's played in big games against big players.

“That's why we bring in players like that, in case something happens, injuries and suspensions, and they push us.

“That's a plus for us, that we've got strength in depth of top players," he said.

The Super Eagles centre-back will be looking forward to his first start when Brighton trade tackles with Liverpool in their next top-flight encounter at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.
