Gor Mahia will now play their Caf Champions League matches in Machakos.

The decision to settle for Machakos comes just hours after the ban slapped on the club from using the venue was lifted by Governor Alfred Mutua.

Speaking after meeting the club officials led by chairman Ambrose Rachier, Mutua confirmed that the club will use the venue for both Caf and Kenyan Premier League matches.

“We have agreed that Gor Mahia FC can now play its Premier League matches in Machakos and use our stadium as their home stadium. Their first game will be an international game against Equatorial Guinea’s Leones Vegetarianos on February 10, this year.

“As a token of goodwill and to be able to compensate the county for the destruction that occurred in 2014, the club has offered the Machakos County Government one million shillings through an agreed formula.

“I welcome Gor Mahia and its vibrant supporters to Machakos as we use sports to bring out the best in all of us and to create friendships and peace in our great country of Kenya,” Mutua said in a statement obtained by Goal.

Gor Mahia had earlier planned to use either Kisumu Stadium or the renovated Bukhungu Stadium for Caf matches.

K’Ogalo were banned from using the facility following crowd trouble in 2014 when they lost a league match to Sofapaka.
