The Ghana FA vice-president has been released of his duties, the body said in a statement on Tuesday

Ghana Football Association vice president George Afriyie has been relieved of his position by the body’s Executive Committee after only three years in office.

The 50-year-old, who succeeded Frederick Pappoe in 2015, last month announced his intention to run for the presidency in 2019, following Nyantakyi's declaration not to seek a reelection when his tenure ends.

However, Afriyie's announcement didn't go down well with his boss and Goal understands there was a chaos at the Executive Committee's last sitting a fortnight ago, with a section of members proposing a vote of no confidence in him.

Athough, Afriyie was in Kumasi on Monday when Caf president Ahmad Ahmad arrived in the city to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II, he was not seen among the delegates.

According to Goal's sources, Wilfred Kwaku Osei or Nanabeyin Eyison will likely be named as new vice president at the EC’s next meeting.
