The once-feared striker failed to make any impact at the club last season, making only two league appearances for the Durban-based side

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela has been released by National First Division side Royal Eagles.

The ambitious KZN side has in addition pulled the plug on seven other players, with Mphela heading the list of outgoing players.

The 32-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements as he struggled with injuries and lost form.

Injuries cost Mphela dearly at Amakhosi, who released him after he struggled to cement his place in the team.

Mphela achieved worldwide fame for the stunning equalizer against Spain in the 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup in Rustenburg.
