Free State Stars head coach Luc Eymael admits that he was surprised to hear that William Twala has left the Bethlehem-based club.
The attacking midfielder joined Ea Lla Koto prior to the start of the current season as a free agent.
Twala, who has had injury problems since last season, reportedly asked Stars' management to terminate his contract with immediate effect and he left without notifying Eymael.
“After the Chiefs game (2-0 defeat), Twala went to see the physiotherapist," Eymael told Daily Sun.
"I heard he then went to manager Rantsi (Mokoena) saying he had a problem with his shin that’s painful. Therefore he would like to come to an agreement to terminate his contract," the Belgian tactician said about the former Chippa United attacker.
Twala spent the second half of the 2017/18 season on loan at Maritzburg United from Chiefs where he had fallen out of favour under coach Steve Komphela.
“I heard he packed all his things. It’s difficult for me to have an opinion because I don’t know what happened. He hasn’t spoken to me. If he left the club due to injury it’s sad, as I had hoped he would add value in the team," former Polokwane City coach concluded.
The 28-year-old player, who was nurtured in Pirates academy, parted ways with Chiefs following an unsuccessful short spell with Maritzburg having made five appearances in all competitions.
He made only one league appearance for Stars.
