Adelaide United have put in a clinical performance to see off APIA Leichhardt 2-0 in their FFA Cup quarter-final.

After upsetting Melbourne Victory, APIA had their sights set firmly on another shock on home soil but it was Adelaide with all the chances in the first-half.

Papa Diawara and Ken Ilso both going close for the Reds as Leichhardt managed to hold on and head into half-time locked at 0-0.

APIA emerged from the break with some fresh legs and went close to going ahead in the 63rd minute when Joshua Symons struck the crossbar.

Adelaide themselves would find the lead just seven minutes later though when Craig Goodwin found the top corner with a long-range bullet.

Goodwin continuing his streak of scoring in every FFA Cup game to date for the Reds as the A-League side took control of the contest.

Leichhardt weren't ready to roll over just yet however with Tasuku Sekiya forcing a fine save from Paul Izzo at his near post in the 75th minute.

But Mirko Boland would seal the result for Adelaide in the 80th minute as he headed home from close range and wrapped up a 2-0 win.

Elsewhere, Bentleigh Greens would pull past Heidelberg United courtesy of an 87th minute winner from Jacob Alexander.
