Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp has revealed why both Ryan Moon and Dumisani Zuma haven't featured regularly for the club in recent months.

Moon had a solid season for Amakhosi last season while Zuma has had his fair share of game time since joining the club from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2017.

According to Middendorp, both players lack enough training sessions to be guaranteed a place in the Amakhosi starting line-up.

"It’s difficult for Moon because he had a great time last season and getting a call-up for Bafana Bafana," the Chiefs mentor told the media.

"I promoted him while we were together at Maritzburg United," said Middendorp of Moon.

Middendorp went further to say Moon's situation is similar to that of Zuma, who has been blowing hot and cold since moving to Naturena.

However, he said the former Maritzburg United marksman will be in the matchday squad for the Nedbank Cup match against The Magic FC this weekend.

"His situation is similar to that of Dumsani Zuma. They have both potential, but lack of enough training sessions has contributed to him falling behind in the selection order. He is a talented and qualified young player who’s working hard to get his chance. He will definitely be in the squad this weekend," he concluded.

Moon has featured in 10 matches across all competitions for Chiefs without finding the back of the net.

Zuma, on the other hand, has 16 appearances under his belt thus far while scoring once and grabbing one assist in the process.

The 23-year-old last played competitive football in December 2018 when he came off the bench in Amakhosi's 1-0 over SuperSport United.

Ironically, that was Middendorp's first league game in charge of the Glamour Boys soon after returning for a second stint to replace Giovanni Solinas.

It remains to be seen if he will make the travelling squad to Port Elizabeth for this weekend's Last 16 clash with ABC Motsepe League side The Magic FC.
