Don’t be deceived by Wikki Tourist’s form, warns Maikaba

Abdu Maikaba has warned that Wikki Tourist’s form in the Nigeria Professional Football League should not be a pointer to what they will offer in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Maikaba led the Bauchi Elephants to a third place finish, thus, securing a continental ticket but he was snapped by Akwa United this season.

And his replacement, Mohammed Babaganaru has endured an underwhelming start to life as he boasts of only two wins from six topflight matches.

“Domestic football is completely different from the continental football,” Maikaba told Goal.

“Not doing well at domestic level doesn’t mean you won’t do well in continental championships. And after all, we have just played six games and I believe Wikki Tourist have all it takes to go far in that competition.”

Alongside last campaign’s top scorer, Godwin Obaje, a handful of the squad left the Abubarkar Tafawa Balewa Stadium outfit. But the former Enyimba gaffer is upbeat that they will recover from those crucial losses.

“Losing some players is not good for the team but I have the believe they have effective replacements of all the players they lost, particularly the midfield area, they have more players that can help the team,'' he continued.

“I don’t think they have the right replacements. But if Shammah Tanze will be available, I believe they have very little problem.''
