The 2018 edition of the Caf Champions League may still be a few months away but the deadline for registrations is looming.
Mamelodi Sundowns will once again represent South Africa alongside Premier Soccer League (PSL) title holders Bidvest Wits and reports suggest that the former African Champions will need to start planning for their continental campaign amidst a potential player exodus.
According to Caf rules, Masandawana have until December 31 to formalise a preliminary list of 30 names that will represent the club on the continent before they will be given a further 15 days, up until January 15 to amend their squad lists.
This certainly puts the Brazilians in a precarious situation with a potential player exodus on the horizon. Sundowns are resigned to losing both Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat, but while it is still unclear whether or not they will be shipped out in the January transfer window or kept on until the end of the season, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has an important decision to make.
Meanwhile, the deadline will also mean that the Tshwane giants need to conclude contract talks with several of their key players including Tiyani Mabunda and Themba Zwane whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the current season, or Sundowns could potentially run the risk of losing them at the end of the season and may not be able to bolster their squad adequately.
