De Royal Academy Lagos have qualified for the 2018 World Football Fives billed for China.
The Lagos based academy subdued De Royal Academy, Abeokuta 1-0 in a keenly contested National final played at the Campos Mini Stadium on Saturday.
Damilola Akinola’s strike proved the difference between both teams after helping his helping his team navigate past Abuja FC 2-1 and G-12 Academy 3-0 in the quarter-final and semis respectively.
Reacting to the triumph, 14-year-old Akinola – the hero for his side is delighted but admitted his team never believed they could emerge as champions.
"It's a good feeling to lift the trophy and to be part of the winning team that will be going to China," Akinola told Goal.
"We didn't believe we can win this tournament because we have never played this type of game before, so we just put our best performances in every game because there's God, we can do it."
