The Blues boss sheds light on what the future holds for the returning Ghanaian full-back

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants to give recuperating Baba Rahman a chance to prove his worth at Stamford Bridge amidst uncertainty over the Ghanaian's future.

The 23-year-old has been in the treatment room since picking up an injury while playing for Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Initially expected back in action in August, the left-back has had to spend more time in rehabilitation due to a series of setbacks.

"This player [Baba] is coming back from a bad injury and he’s struggling a bit to recover the best form,’ Conte said on Friday.

"I must be honest, I don’t know what will happen with Baba. From a human aspect, I’d like to give him an opportunity to come back strong like before.

"Now he has to face his recovery. He’s showing great patience because he’s struggling a lot.

"If I can help him I’m ready to help him because there is the player, and then there is the human aspect.

"For him it’s good to stay here and recover."

German side Schalke, with whom Baba was on loan before his injury, have expressed interest in having him back at Veltins-Arena when he regains full fitness.

English outfits Everton and Newcastle United are reportedly also eyeing a January move for the fullback, while Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have also shown interest in the Black Star.

Baba joined Chelsea in August 2015 but limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge warranted a move to Schalke after playing 15 league games in his first season with the Blues.
