Azam remain third with 46 points, one behind Yanga who have two games in hand

Aristica Cioaba’s future at Azam FC have plunged into serious doubt after Sunday night's draw against bottom club Njombe Mji in the Vodacom Premier League clash.

The Romanian has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks following a series of poor results and reports suggest that Azam officials have opened talks with Singida United Head Coach Hans van Pluijm to take over at Chamazi Complex next season.

However, those rumors are only likely to intensify in the coming days after Azam FC lost further ground on Yanga.

The Ice Cream Makers, drew with Mbeya City last week, followed by a 2-0 defeat against Ruvu Shooting on Friday.

In the game against Njombe Mji, Azam started the brighter side by creating several clear opportunities before the break but their forwards, Bernard Arthur and Yahya Zayd couldn’t take them.

The Njombe based side improved their performance in the second half to make the home side have a tense finish, however the game ended scoreless.

The results means Azam remain third with 46 points, one behind Yanga who have two games in hand, while Njombe Mji remain at the bottom of the table with 19 points, four behind the safety area.

In other results, Singida United were stunned 1-0 by Lipuli in Samora stadium, while Stand United beat Mwadui 3-1 in the Shinyanga derby. Elsewhere, Mbao FC held by Maji Maji in 2-2 draw in Mwanza.
