The reigning NUGA champions are aiming to see off their Calabar opponents to retain bragging rights as the best footballing university in Nigeria

UAM Tillers are eyeing the top prize in Saturday’s Higher Institution Football League final against UNICAL Malabites, according to coach Priscilla Vande.

The two teams will slug it out for glory at Agege Stadium after fighting their way through the preliminaries.

UAM Tillers survived a semi-final scare by overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat the OAU Giants by 3-0 that helped them book their place in the Lagos finals with a 6-5 aggregate win.

And Vande who led the Makurdi outfit to win the Nigerian University Games on home soil in 2017, is positive that her team have the spirit and quality to clinch the maiden diadem.

"There are challenges in every phase of life. The challenges we faced in this competition have made us stronger,” Vande told Goal.

"[HiFL]It's top level because it's a higher challenge like WAUG [West African University Games]. We've started this competition three months ago and we're still in it so we’ve come a long way.

"Every opposition has been tough because we have fought hard to be here.

“We are expecting a good result tomorrow because all the games have been difficult but the quality of football we play has brought us far.”
