East Bengal eye a third straight win against minnows Peerless SC in a crucial Calcutta Football League clash on Saturday....

After back to back victories in the Calcutta Football League (CFL), defending champions East Bengal will be eyeing a third conscutive win against Peerless SC to extend their winning streak and move up in the league table.

The Red and Golds started their campaign with a convincing win over newly promoted Rainbow AC but somewhat faltered in their second game. Even though they picked up full three points against Calcutta Customs, their performance was far from convincing.

Report: Mohun Bagan 3-0 Railway FC

Trinidad and Tobago international defender Carlyle Mitchell came to the club's rescue in their last match during the last 10 minutes by converting two headers as East Bengal collected the all important three points.

Khalid Jamil has a lot to worry regarding the form of the club's star striker Willis Plaza whose performance has been dismal so far. The striker looked lacking in fitness, motivation and zeal to perform on the field. He seems to have lost his confidence and the faith of the East Bengal fans, who gave him some stick in the previous game.

For the club to shine and defend their CFL title yet again this season, Plaza needs to be back in form as soon as possible. On the plus side, the new recruits are performing brilliantly, especially Brandon Vanlalremdika and Laldanmawia Ralte on the flanks. The coach's strategy to utilise the wings to attack has been a great hit mainly due to the former Aizawl FC duo.

East Bengal's opponents today, Peerless SC, too are in very good form. They also have collected full six points from their first two outings. They have several quality players in their ranks, most notable being former India international Syed Rahim Nabi.

The Kolkata giants, who have been demoted to the second position in the league table after their arch-rival Mohun Bagan's 3-0 win against Railway FC yesterday, will be eyeing a convincing win over minnows Peerless and a move back to the summit.
