President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed a new Sports Cabinet Secretary to replace embattled Hassan Wario.
Rashid Mohammed's name has been forwarded to Parliament and will replace Wario, who has been given Ambassadorial post as Kenyan representative in Austria.
Ambassador Peter Kaberia has, however, been retained as the Principal Secretary of the rebranded ministry.
The docket that was previously known as the Ministry of Sports, Art and Culture has now been renamed to Ministry of Sports and Heritage.
Not much is known about the incoming CS as far as sports is concerned, but the appointment will come as a reprieve for local sports stakeholders, who were yearning for the change of guard at the ministry.
Mohammed, a former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth wing leader in Mumias, studied Criminology at Mount Kenya University.
Wario’s five-year tenure at KenCom House was marred by controversy including the Olympics scandals that rocked team Kenya in Brazil and most recently, Kenya missing the chance to host the 2018 Chan Championship.
Under Wario, the government also failed to deliver on her promise to construct five ultra-modern stadia as was promised on the Jubilee Manifesto in 2013.
