Bidvest Wits reject Orlando Pirates bid for Hlatshwayo

It remains to be seen whether the Clever Boys will grant the 27-year-old player his wish to join the Buccaneers

Bidvest Wits have reportedly rejected Orlando Pirates' bid for Thulani Hlatshwayo.

Bucs are known to be in the market for defenders after the team endured their worst season in the PSL era - finishing outside the top eight for the first time.

The four-time PSL champions conceded a whooping 40 goals in 30 league matches last season and they have since been linked with several defenders.

According to The Citizen source, the Buccaneers have submitted a bid for Wits captain and defender Hlatshwayo, but the Clever Boys are holding out for an enticing offer.

“I heard that Pirates made an offer for Tyson, but they were told that he was not for sale," the source said.

"He is the captain of the team, so unless Pirates make an offer Wits could not resist, Hlatshwayo will remain with the Students next season,” the source concluded.

Hlatshwayo, who is still contracted to Wits until June, 2019, is open to joining the Buccaneers - having already revealed that it would be a dream come true if he moved to his childhood team.

The Bafana Bafana captain was crowned Defender of the Season at the 2016/17 PSL awards after leading Wits to an impressive league and MTN8 Cup double.
