Lobi Stars’ Barnabas Imenger has assured that the Pride of Benue won’t have a repeat of their disastrous outing in the Caf Confederation Cup when they represented Nigeria in 2013 as they prepare for their return to the continent in the Caf Champions League this year.
The Pride of Benue were eliminated in the first round of the second-tier club competition by Liga Muculmuna of Mozambique 8-4 on aggregate after they were roundly outclassed 7-1 in Maputo.
Lobi Stars are drawn against Cameroon's USM de Loum in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League in the draws conducted in Rabat, Morocco on Saturday and Imenger revealed that they are poised to take all the games seriously.
“We are happy that our opponent for the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League has now been known and it will give us ample time to prepare for them and also try to find out information about them,” Imenger told Goal.
“We have been expecting the announcement on the draw for quite some time now and now that we that that sorted out it will enable us to prepare our team so that we can get the desired result against USM. We have a lot of things to iron out and we do not have time on our side. We have played a lot of friendly matches but against lower league teams.
“We will take part in at least a preseason tournament and thereafter play the Super Cup against Enugu Rangers before the game with the Cameroonians. We want to take them one after the other.”
