The South African Football Association (Safa) has confirmed that a new Bafana Bafana coach will be announced in the next 24 to 48 hours.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, the country's FA revealed that the search for Shakes Mashaba's successor has been finalised, before adding that everything, including all legal arrangements, will be concluded today (Wednesday).
Safa had been in talks with SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter and other unnamed coaches for the vacant position.
Matsatsantsa had given Safa and Baxter until the end of business on Wednesday to finalise the deal, but it is unclear at this stage as to whether or not the 63-year-old has done enough to reclaim his old job.
"Following a thorough, but lengthy process of seeking a replacement Head Coach for the Men’s Senior National Team, Bafana Bafana, the Association is pleased to announce that it has finalised an agreement with the successful candidate and is in the process of formalising the legal arrangements by exchanging signatures today," reads the statement on Safa's website.
"We are mindful that the South African public has been waiting with bated breath for this matter to be concluded and we can report that we will make a formal and more detailed announcement to this effect in the next 24 to 48 hours," concluded the statement.
